December RainThrough mist, through my eyes, I see I am blind
my soul hath no knowledge, heart hath no sight
through my ears the wind blows, cold as the night
deafening me to the sounds of my mind

The sun, his face shining, mocks me with light
his bright severe finger pointing at me
illuminates things I can't bear to see
nowhere to hide, I am faced with my plight

But rain falls, empathic, drowning my cry
her icy chill numbs me so I cannot
feel memories of a heart so distraught
thus consoling me with tears from the sky

And if the rain cannot drown my sorrow
She will cry with me until the morrow

Cruelty...Cruel?

She considers. Could she really be cruel? Ironic. She has thought of herself as many things, over the years, so many of them unfavorable: ugly, stupid, kind, thoughtless, inconsiderate, good, a flake, a pushover, pathetic, self-sacrificing, doomed, cursed, a bad luck charm, awkward, pure, unlovable, untalented, ordinary, meaningless, broken. Many fair, many unfair. But cruel was never among them. Cruel was the last thing she thought she was. The last thing she wanted to be. Was it really so cruel, to keep the horrors to herself, rather than multiply them at the expense of her loved ones?

Yes.

But unintentionally so. For what good
UnderstandingShe wonders why she's writing in third person. Maybe because she's so detached. She no longer feels connected to herself, and she wonders how she feels about this. She's such a flake, such a screw-up, that maybe detachment is good. But herself is all she's ever been. Who is she if not her?

She stops. This is why you always burn these, she reminds herself. You get too lost in the meta. She remembers the positive side of detachment. Talking to yourself is less lonely when yourself feels like someone else.

She wishes she could be the self she idolizes. Seventeen. Not careless, not senseless, but unknowing. In the very best way. Everything ahea

I like doing these...they make me laugh and are strangely stress-relieving. Plus it's like hanging out with my characters.

Better go do something productive now...though these ARE helping me get in the right mindset for my entry to the :iconthe-dragon-writers: contest. :)

Hehe...you actually read my scraps. :) The Harry Potter urge is a tough one to beat, I completely understand. :iconsolemnnodplz:

And actually he hasn't been introduced yet. Well, he has been here [link] but that's a book five excerpt. He shows up in Book Two and is one of the major reasons I'm excited about finishing and posting Book Two. He's one of my very favorite characters. To put it simply, he's Eala's lover and he's an immortal dragon mage.

I didn't even realize that was your scraps. I always watch peoples scraps :) Ever since the last movie came out I've been rereading the series. I'm finally started number 7 last night, but then the beedle and the bard, quidditch through the ages and fanastic beasts and where to find them came in the mail so that adds atleast anouther day.

Glad I didn't forget about D'cyl. You can't exactly forget about something you haven't heard of yet. When you say he's an immortal dragon mage, does that mean he's a dragon, or something else.

I do too. But yeah, I didn't really want it to show up in my "newest deviations" box on my profile so I submitted it to scraps. Plus, you know, it was just for fun. :shrug:

Yeah, I've been re-reading too. Oh, you did get quidditch through the ages and fanastic beasts and where to find them ? Very cool. I bought "The Tales of Beedle The Bard" online but it never came so I've actually never read it! *is a failure of a fan*

He's a shape-shifter, like Eala. He can turn into a dragon.

Apart from you sending me " :) " I think that's the shortest comment I've ever gotten from you. If you want I can type up the Beedle and the Bard and send it to you in a note. It's really short so it won't take long.

Yeah, usually I don't do short comments...

Oh gosh no, don't do that! It's really nice of you to offer, but seriously, I don't want you to spend time doing that. My mother-in-law has a copy and I've been thinking about asking if I could borrow it. Just didn't want to since technically it was a present from my husband and I TO her, since we thought our copy was in the mail, where it then got lost.
